Natrusnatastu   yagosti   na   caikantamanasnatah,

Na   catisvapnaseelasya   jagrato   naiva   carjuna.

Atrusnatah  tu                      =  One who over-eats,

Yogah  na  asti                       =  do not have yoganubuti ( bliss from meditation)

Ekantam  anasnatah           =  One who eats less, too do not have yoganubuti.

Atisvapnaseelasya  ca  na  =  One sleeps very long ( sleep more than necessary )

Jagratah  ca                             =  One who never sleeps and ever in the waking state,

Na  eva                                        =  Never achieve yoganubuti, it is certain.

----------------------------------------------------------

In this slokam yoga means not yogasanam, but indicates meditation. Regarding the aim and the practise of yoga, a detailed explanation is given here. An ordinary seeker may be disheartened, why because - after many years practising Sadhana, still the seeker finds, that he is far behind from the goal. Why this is happening? why he is failing? So Lord Krishna is placing the reasons and warns him too.

To make meditation a success, seeker needs to follow certain conditions and discipline in eating habits and sleeping moods. Food, sleep, and activities should be in the middle point ( regulated, disciplined, controlled, nor less nor more attitude ), too much or  too less, both are dangerous.

For over eater and less eater never get yoganubuti. Here, the food means not only the food taken through mouth, but also. The sense objects, vishayas like sound, touch, etc.. are the food for indriyas( sense-organs), emotions are the food of the mind, thoughts are the food of intelligence. Therefore  not only the food taken in by mouth, but also the food of indriya + mano + buddhi ( that is, vishaya + vikara + vichara )all should be as to the needs only( medium-level).

Do not disturb others, do not harsh to other living things, Do not go for your tastes ( tongue ), food must be easily prepared one, should be easily digestible one, taken only half stomach, the balance quarter space is for water and remaining quarter space should be left empty for the air circulation. This is the exact rule for the food is concerned.

One who sleeps more he will be effected by Tamass. This will reduce the capacity and ability of mind and intelligence. In the same way, one who have no sleep or less sleep, he will not be enthusiastic for Sadhana. While pursuing Sadhana normal, logical, regulation, discipline must be the daily routine  in the life of  yogi.
