Srimad Bhagavadgeeta :

Chapter-2. ( Samkyayogam)

Slokam-22.

Vasamsi    jeernnani   yatha    vihaaya,

Navani   grhnnati    naro    paranni,

Tatha    sareeranni    vihaaya    jeernnani,

Anyaati    samyaati    navani    dehee.

Narah    yatha    =    Hunan beings   which  way,

Jeernnani   vaasamsi   vihaya   =    Discard    worn out and  torn  cloths,

Navaani    aparanni    grahnnati    =    Accept and start  using  new   cloths,

Yatha   dehee    =    That way,  body  conscious   ( accepted and living in a body )  jeevatma,

Jeernnani   sareeranni   vihaya    =    Discard, and leave the  old decayed body,

Navaani   anyaani   samyaati     =    ( Jeevatma ), Accept  another new body.

The Jeevatma which is occupying, beyond our inner equipment, forgetting its own Supreme nature, becomes body conscious, and observes its body karmas as its own, thereafter to foolish jeeva.
The body conscious jeeva is known as 'Dehee'.

When this dehee once the consciousness and attachment of body is over, leave this body and enter (accept) into another body. This attitude and custom of dehee is explained with a very good example, in this slokam.

According to necessity and situations, we select and wear and again change for the new situation. This is a continuous on going process. Likewise the jeevatma leaves/discards its own present body and accept suitable new one. Each body thus changed must be useful to the necessities of 'Dehee'. You cannot wear night dress while going to your office or the office dress while going to bed. Likewise is the 'Dehees'acceting way of the body.

Here the details make us to know the meaning ('pratibasam, svarupam, and utility') of "Death". In this the example helps us to grasp the tattvam/principle of death.

Is there anybody feels bad to discard the worn out /torn old cloths? We change the old one to get a new one, in the same way if the present body becomes useless, decaying, and in this situation this body cannot fulfil the jeevatma's necessities, this body is not capable for the evolution process even. Jeevatma cannot experience anything with this decayed worn out body, so the time is arrived to discard the present body.

About this statement upon the secret of death makes some to criticise. They ask what is the justification of deaths for young people, this example does not suits here and so on...

Here in the eyes of the critic the body of the young man is not decayed, but the 'Dehee'the one who wears this young body, as for as this 'Dehee'is concerned this particular body has become useless.

You have seen rich people are (going on ) changing their cars whenever a new model appears in the market. For them their present car has become old, and for those who bought this second hand car, it  is the new one. Similarly Dehee decides whether his body is decayed or not and not the body's state, or age.

In Bhagavadgeeta "Punarjanmam"( Rebirth ) is mentioned at several places, this slokam is connected to them too.

People are afraid of death, ( sad on hearing the death news),because of the ignorance of the secrecy of death. Those who know the realty never fear or sad about it. As we do not feel pain while changing our cloths, likewise 'Dehee'never feel pain when the change of body occurs. Once we remove our cloths we become naked, then we are unable to move any where, like wise 'Dehee needs a body to fulfil its needs.

Development and evolution are the involvements of mano and buddhi ( mind+intelligence equipment). But the Jeevatma is not concerned about them.Jeevatma is over and above and infinite is its nature, development and evolution are not necessary for it because it is already "Sampoornnam".
